Colours Of Olympic London 2012 ~2

More than 20,000 people who signed up to be London 2012 Local Leaders are getting involved by organising their own events including Opening Night In for the Opening Ceremony, to sizzling barbeques to celebrate the gold rush on Super Saturday. There's something for everyone and there's still time to join in.

More than 80% of schools across the UK are taking part in the London 2012 Get Set education programme, which aims to spark young people’s imaginations and enthusiasm for learning. Much of the activity is based on the Olympic Values of friendship, excellence and respect, and the Paralympic Values inspiration, determination, courage and equality.

During its 70-day tour of the UK, more than 13 million people lined the streets to cheer the Olympic Flame as it passed through their local community. The Flame travelled within 10 miles of 95% of the UK population on its journey to the Olympic Stadium.

Streb Extreme Action appeared at landmarks around the city on 15 July, taking spectators by surprise with their feats. This formed one of several high-profile events being presented by the Mayor of London and the London 2012 Festival to celebrate the Games.

Hundreds of thousands of people have attended one of the London 2012 Live Sites to cheer on athletes and watch the sporting action on the big screen. There are 22 Live Sites across the country, giving visitors a chance to soak up the atmosphere, by getting together with friends, family and the community. Some Live Sites also offer live music as well as a host of children's activities such as have-a-go sport sessions.

Business contracts have been awarded to companies in every nation and region of the UK with over 50% of contracts awarded to businesses outside of London and the South East.

On Friday 27 July 2.9 million people took part in Martin Creed’s commission to ring bells 'as quickly and as loudly as possible for three minutes' at 8.12am to herald the start of the Games.

More than 12 million people have attended London 2012 Festival events. Big Dance, the world’s largest dance programme, featured an array of events including the creation of a new piece for 2,000 dancers in Trafalgar Square.

Since London won the bid in 2005, people right across the UK have been getting involved with the Games in many different ways. Whether it's becoming a Local Leader, attending a London 2012 Festival event or lining the streets for the Torch Relay, there's something for everyone.

People across the UK have been inspired leading up the the Olymic Games and are now feeling proud and are making it their own. How will you join in?
The London 2012 Inspire programme encourages groups to do something special in their local communities, and has delivered over 2,500 grass roots projects
